On September 5, H. E. Madam Nilakshi Saha Sinha, the Indian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia and Georgia, and Shushanik Mirzakhanyan, the director of the National Cinema Center of Armenia met with the aim of enhancing cinematic collaboration between India and Armenia.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around issues related to the development of the film industry and the essentials of Armenian-Indian cooperation in this field. Both parties shared the belief that it is important to explore and assess the prospects and possibilities of cooperation. Both parties emphasized the importance of the participation of Armenian film industry professionals in the 17th Indian filmbazaarindia, scheduled to take place in Goa, (November 20-24), highlighting its significance and opportunities. The Indian diplomat, in particular, underscored that Film Bazaar is the largest and most prestigious film market in the South Asian region. It has been a source of many opportunities, business relations and networking for film producers and film sales agents, having become a significant gathering point for people united by cinema. Every year, thousands of film professionals attend the market, finalizing contracts and various legal documents of cooperation for newly produced or sold films. Director Shushanik Mirzakhanyan also mentioned that last year a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Cinema Center of Armenia and the Indian Economic Trade Organization aimed at the development of the cinema sector and fostering Armenian-Indian cooperation in that field. According to her, a long time is needed to make such cooperation practical in order to assess both parties' capacities and make it legally invulnerable. Furthermore, they discussed avenues for collaboration in film restoration, film education and joint film production. With an aim to raise work efficiency, the parties have agreed to compile information on the primary issues of the field, globally significant projects and prospective undertakings.
