Brusov State University, represented by Rector Davit Gyurjinyan, and the National Cinema Center of Armenia, represented by Director Shushanik Mirzakhanyan, signed a bilateral agreement. Under this agreement, a screening of the film “We and Our Mountains”on April 30th,  directed by Henrik Malyan with French subtitles, was organized. The translation of the film and the preparation of the subtitles were carried out by BSU students.

 

In his welcoming speech, BSU Rector Davit Gyurjinyan highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing that the project should be continuous and expand its scope by involving Chairs of other languages as well. The Rector congratulated the students, acknowledging the importance of both their participation and the contribution of the French teachers in fostering cultural dialogue through this initiative.

 

The screening was attended by Guillaume Narjollet, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs of the French Embassy in Armenia, Cornel Ionescu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Armenia, Sara Nalbandyan, Rector of the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, employees of the National Cinema Center of Armenia, Henrik Malyan's daughter, Narine Malyan, Hrant Matevosyan's son, Davit Matevosyan, guests from France, lecturers and students.

 

Shushanik Mirzakhanyan, Director of the National Cinema Center of Armenia, began her speech by expressing gratitude for the initiative and emphasized the importance of such translations nowadays. She highlighted that translating into French and other languages is crucial for presenting our cultural values to the world. Davit Matevosyan shared memorable facts from the history of the film in his speech. After watching the film, BSU students Angin Arakelyan, Rita Boyajyan, Lala Arakelyan and Maria Yeghoyan spoke about their two months of translation work, discussing the linguistic and cultural challenges as well as unforgettable moments. Le Courrier d'Erevan’s journalist and translation editor Olivier Merlet, along with Panthéon-Sorbonne University graduate and geopolitician Anuk Bigo, mentioned in their speech the many memorable moments they experienced during their work. They spoke about discovering Armenian culture and the importance of accurately presenting linguistic nuances to the French-speaking society.

 

Coordinator of the translation work, BSU lecturer, and Head of the Francophone Scientific-Educational Center for Interuniversity Academic Achievement, Ani Janikyan, congratulated the students who participated in the translation work and the French editors. She assured that one of BSU's strategies is to ensure cultural dialogue, in this case, by communicating our cultural values to the French-speaking public. She also thanked the National Cinema Center of Armenia for their cooperation.
