The world premiere of Luka, a state-financed feature directed by Jessica Woodworth (with films screened in multiple festivals such as Venice, Cannes, Toronto, Sundance, some of them award-winning, including the Lion of the Future in Venice for “Khadak” film) will take place on January 29 at the Cinema Pathe՛ 5 in the frames of the Big Screen Competition of the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). The film is also having its Belgian premiere immediately afterwards at the Ostend Film Festival on the 30th of January.

 

This state financed film is a joint production of Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Bulgaria-Armenia. Angela Frangyan is the co-producer from the Armenian side.

 

An Armenian actor Samvel Tadevosyan is one of the leading actors in the film, along with famous Hollywood co-stars Geraldine Chaplin and award-winning actor Jonas Smulders. Luka is an adaptation of Dino Buzzati’s acclaimed novel “The Tartar Steppe”.

 

On this occasion, director of the National Cinema Center of Armenia Shushanik Mirzakhanyan, Film Commissioner Melik Karapetyan and the producer from the Armenian side Angela Frangyan visited Rotterdam and Ostend. The main actress Geraldine Chaplin, film director Jessica Woodworth and general producer Peter Brosens will attend the screenings; invitations have also been sent to the RA Ambassadors in Belgium and the Netherlands - Anna Aghajanyan and Tigran Balayan respectively.
