Jeppe of the Hill by Ludvig Holberg

Norwegian dramatist Ludvig Holberg's comedy, "Jeppe of the Hill," was written in 1722. The author is rightfully considered the Danish Moliere. Holberg adapted the plot from Jacob Biedermann’s “Utopia” (1640).

The play revolves around a poor peasant named Jeppe, who by chance finds himself in the palace of a baron. The courtiers, for amusement, convince him that he is of noble birth rather than a simple peasant.
