As a project partner, the National Cinema Center of Armenia is delighted to share that a series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Sergey Parajanov has launched in Germany, which will continue until the end of April this year. The events starting from January 20 such as film screenings, photo exhibitions, installations, and discussions, will take place in the following sequence:
Berlin: January 20-31 (ARSENAL Cinema and Video Art Institute e.V., Arsenal Cinema),
Munich: February 9-28 (Kino Museum),
Frankfurt: March 1-31,
Dusseldorf: April 4- 24 (German Film Institute and Film Museum DFF),
Cologne: April 12-27 (Allerweltskino e.V Ludwig Museum).
At the Arsenal cinema in Berlin, a series of retrospective screenings entitled “Sergei Parajanov: Virtuoso of the Visual Arts” included the director’s so-called Triptych - “Hakob Hovnatanyan”, “Kyiv Frescoes” and “Arabesques on the Pirosmani Theme”, as well as the films “Ashik-Kerib” and “The Legend of the Suram Fortress".
Retrospective screenings will also be held in other cities of Germany: Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Cologne.
In addition to the mentioned events, the supplementary program “Parajanov 100 Germany' initiative” is also planned.
This includes:
A photo exhibition by Yuri Mechitov at the Filmmuseum in Munich (February 9-28).
An installation “Dinner with Parajanov” at HETJENS Ceramics Museum in Düsseldorf (April/May 2024).
The project was initiated and curated by the Georgian artist and curator Irina Kurtishvili, who has been living and working in Germany since the mid-1990s.
